Detailed Analysis
This missing child plea has been circulating via Facebook and other social media outlets since January 2012. The message asks users to share a picture of Arwa, missing since 7th January 2012 from Santacruz (West) a suburb of Mumbai, India.
The case described did happen. However, five year old Arwa was in fact found and returned to her family on the very same day that she went missing. A January 10, 2012 article on the Indian Express website notes:
Arwa Korakiwala (5) — who went missing near St Theresa Convent High School in Santacruz (West) on Saturday morning — was found the same evening near the Kherwadi police station in Bandra (East). However, concerned netizens on social networking websites have still not stopped their zealous quest to find the girl.
When the girl went missing, her family — based in Santacruz (West) — lodged a missing person’s complaint at the Santacruz police station, said her grandfather Haider Korakiwala (75). “Soon, we received a call that she had been found near the Kherwadi police station. We went there and got her back home immediately,” he said.
Thus, the continued circulation of the message is utterly pointless. If you receive this message, please let the poster know that the girl has now been found.
