Does a Circulating Image Show A Rapist Coach Slashed by a Protective Mother?

Social media driven message claims that a mother who caught a visiting baseball coach sexually assaulting her nine year old son, attacked the man with a large carving knife, thereby causing the severe back injuries depicted in an attached photograph.

Brief Analysis
The claims in the message are currently unsubstantiated. Research indicates no credible reports about a 2009 case like the one described. Moreover, the same photograph is circulating in an entirely different context in which it is claimed that the image shows a woman slashed with a machete after being caught cheating by her husband. Neither story has yet been verified.

About Brett Christensen and Hoax-Slayer

Person with severe back injuires
This coach was charged with the rape of a kid in like 2009. The coach visited the home of the child to encourage him to join the local team. The child refused to join. When the coach left, the child repeatedly told his mother how he did not feel comfortable with the man.

Two weeks later, the coach returned to the house with food, balloons, and a PlayStation. The child was very excited. Minutes later he joined the team. Four days afterward, the coach came back to the home. He asked the mother if he could give the child private lessons on catching the ball. She agreed.

On June 18th, 2009 Atlanta Court documents indicate that the mother heard her son sobbing. She ran into his bedroom and saw the baseball coach having anal sex with the 9 year old. The mother then ran to the kitchen and grabbed a large "turkey carving" knife, and assaulted the coach.

The question we ask our readers is:

" She should have called the police instead
of attempting to murder the suspect? ''

The police have charged the mother with attempted murder. If convicted she will serve no less than 15 years in state prison under Georgia state laws.

Do you think this child rapist got exactly what he deserved?!

Detailed Analysis
This image, which apparently depicts a person with severe slash injuries on his or her back, is currently being passed around via Facebook, Twitter, email, and blog posts. One story that accompanies the picture claims that a distraught mother inflicted the injuries in 2009 when she caught the man sexually assaulting her young son. The message claims that the injured man, an Atlanta baseball coach who assaulted the 9 year old boy while visiting the child's home to give him private coaching lessons, has subsequently been charged with child rape. Meanwhile, claims the message, the child's mother has been charged with attempted murder and is facing at least 15 years prison.

However, I have so far been unable to locate any credible news, police or court reports that substantiate the claims in the message. It seems likely that, if real, such a case would have been extensively reported by the mainstream media, in Atlanta and elsewhere. But, so far at least, I am yet to discover any such reports. Searches reveal only more instances of the same story included above.

Moreover, the very same image is also currently circulating in an entirely different context. The alternative story claims that the picture shows a woman who was attacked with a machete by her husband after being caught cheating and moves the supposed incident to various locations in Africa. This version of the story also remains unsubstantiated. However, the picture was published in a crime report by GT Online News on September 30, 2012. The picture in the report includes the caption "The chopped woman(Details still sketchy)" and the article notes that a "woman has been brutally chopped to near death in the Linden (Guyana) area".

Pranksters often invent a fanciful tale to go with a gory or unusual image they have found, and this seems to be a likely explanation for at least the first version of the story.
