A February 12, 2013 ABX news report on the incident notes:
The Montana Television Network says hackers broke into the Emergency Alert System of Great Falls affiliate KRTV and its CW station Monday.
KRTV says on its website the hackers broadcast that "dead bodies are rising from their graves" in several Montana counties.
The alert claimed the bodies were "attacking the living" and warned people not to "approach or apprehend these bodies as they are extremely dangerous."
And the New York Daily News notes that:
Orson Wells would be proud.
Pranksters sparked panic in Montana when they hacked into a TV station's emergency alert system to warn of a zombie apocalypse.
Viewers of KRTV's Steve Wilkos show were left stunned on Monday when the message appeared at the top of their screens.
The motivation behind the hacking is currently unclear, although some have postulated that the stunt may have been to garner publicity for a zombie related TV show or movie.
The station involved is said to be investigating the incident.
