Entering '@[4:0]' as a Facebook Comment Displays 'Mark Zuckerberg' But Has Nothing to do With Hacking

According to a post that is currently making its way around Facebook, you can check that your Facebook account has not been hacked by entering '@[4:0]' into a comment.

The message claims that, if the comment changes to display the name Mark Zuckerberg, it means that 'your fb hasn't been hacked'.

Entering the code '@[4:0]' into a Facebook comment from a mobile device will indeed display the name of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg. However, the appearance of the name is certainly not an indication that your account has not been 'hacked'. In fact, the appearance of the name has nothing whatsoever to do with Facebook hacking or lack thereof.

Here is what is really happening. Every Facebook profile has a unique identification number. Entering the number and code in the way described in the message displays the name of the Facebook user with that identification number. And '4' happens to be Mark Zuckerberg's unique identification number. Almost any combination of numbers in the format @[string_of_digits:0] will display a name corresponding to the user with that ID number.

Being a Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg was obviously one of the first to create an account on Facebook, as indicated by his low ID number of 4. Entering '@[5:0]' displays the name of Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes. The first three numbers don't appear to belong to any users and may therefore have been initial test accounts.

This message is a reworked version of an earlier viral post that claimed that adding a Facebook comment with the last three digits of your phone number in the format @[three digits:0] would miraculously display your cell phone's name. But, the name displayed was not that of your phone, but that of an early Facebook user with a three digit ID number.

So, in short, this is a fun little Facebook trick to show your friends, but it has nothing to do with hacking.
