Hoax - Julia Gillard Admits Being in A Lesbian Relationship

Outline
Circulating image purportedly shows an old article clipping in which Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard states that she understands homosexual rights because she is in a lesbian relationship.

Brief Analysis
The image is a hoax. The text of the original clipping has been altered. The original article did not state that Julia Gillard was in a lesbian relationship.

Fake Gillard Clipping

Detailed Analysis
An image, which is currently circulating via email and social media, supposedly shows an old article clipping in which Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard admits to being in a lesbian relationship. A sentence in the article reads:
I will encourage action on women's rights, anti-nuclear policy and I understand homosexual rights as I am in a lesbian relationship."
However, the image is in fact a digitally altered version of the original article depicted in the following screenshot:

Original Clipping

The original makes no mention of a lesbian relationship, but simply states:
I will encourage action on women's rights, anti-nuclear policy and homosexual rights.
Thus, it seems that some malicious prankster has made changes to an original article in a rather lame effort to further his or her own political agenda. The prankster has also added a grammatically incorrect "thank you" to the final sentence.

Herald Sun columnist Andrew Bolt notes the deception in a December 7 blog post.
