Subject: Fwd: I want to work for Google...
A slide allows quick access from different floors ... There are also poles available ... they are similar to the ones used in fire stations.
Employees can eat all they want from a vast choice of food and drink.
Each employee has at least two large screens. There are 4-6 'Zooglers' per office.
: Large boards are available just about everywhere because 'ideas don't always come when seated in the office' says one of Googles managers.
Pool tables, video games etc. are available in many areas.
On each floor, there are private cabin areas where employees can attend to personal affairs.
Professional masseurs (euses) available.
This room provides massage chairs that you control ... while you view relaxing aquariums ...
There are many books in this library ... even some about programming !!
My questions are ... when do they work? How much do they pay to work there? And where do I send my application?
This email forward includes a series of photographs depicting an innovative office workplace that sports a number of unusual features for workers including slide access between floors, relaxation areas such as a games room, a library, and a massage-chair equipped aquarium, private meeting places and eating areas with completely free food and drinks. The message claims that the workplace is one enjoyed by employees of Internet technology giant, Google.
Although such a weird and wonderful workplace may seem a little far-fetched, such an office does indeed exist and it does belong to Google. In fact, the office is Google's European engineering headquarters and is located in Zurich, Switzerland. A March 2008 BBC article about the new office notes:
If your ideal workspace includes a slide, a games room, a 'chill-out' aquarium and plenty of free food then you had better get your CV into Google.
Google has long taken an innovative approach to its workspaces. The Zurich office is not alone in providing an outstanding work environment for employees. Other Google workplaces around the world also offer many perks to employees including free, high quality food and a relaxed and positive work environment designed to foster creativity and innovation among workers. This desirable work environment makes the company very attractive to potential employees. An article about Google published on Canada.com notes:
Dotcom companies were defined by beanbags and pizza but Google, a company that came to prominence after the bubble had burst, has taken that image to a whole new level.
Meeting 'pods' in the style of Swiss chalets and igloos, fireman poles to allow easy access between floors and a slide to ensure that people can get to the cafeteria as quickly as possible are all part of a design of its new European engineering headquarters in Zurich Switzerland.
It gets 3,000 job applications every day.
More photos of the Google Zurich office can be viewed on Business Insider.
Fortune magazine has named it the best place in America to work for the last two years, and similar surveys in the U.K., Italy, France and the Netherlands have put the company at the top of their lists too.
