'Internet Capacity Warning' Phishing Scam
According to this email, which claims to be from the 'Support Department' at 'Information Technology Services', your internet capacity is 70% full and you therefore need to contact support to avoid problems. The email includes a 'contact us' link that supposedly allows you to contact the support department and deal with the issue.
However, the email is not from any legitimate service provider support department. It is a phishing scam designed to trick you into giving your email account login details to cybercriminals.
If you click the 'contact us' link, you will be taken to a bogus 'Help Desk' webpage that asks you to submit your email account username and password. If you provide the requested information and click the 'Submit' button on the fake form, you will be taken to a simple 'Thank-You' page.
At this point, you may believe that you have resolved the supposed issue. However, the criminals can collect the information you submitted and use it to hijack your real email account. They can then use the account to send out spam and scam messages in your name.
Internet service providers may send out messages warning that your account is nearing or has exceeded its storage limit. However, such emails will clearly identify the service provider and they will not demand that you click a link to rectify the problem.
It is always safest to login to your online accounts by entering the address into your browser's address bar or via an official app rather than by clicking a link in an unsolicited email.
