Jackie Chan Falls Victim to yet Another Death Hoax
According to posts currently spreading rapidly via social media, much loved actor Jackie Chan has died. Some of the posts claim that the actor died of a heart attack. Others bemoan his passing via simple 'RIP' messages. And, some news outlets also reported the actor had died.
However, Jackie is alive and well. The man himself denied the death rumour via the following post on his official Facebook Page:
I was shocked by two news reports when I got off the plane. First of all, don't worry! I'm still alive. Second, don't believe the scam on Weibo using my name about the Red Pockets.
This is my official Facebook page and I only have 1 official Weibo page. Love you all!
In fact, poor Mr Chan has 'died' via Internet driven rumours several times in the last few years. In 2013, claims that Jackie had fallen to his death from a cliff while filming in Austria went viral across the Internet. As with this current version, Jackie posted a message on Facebook denying his passing.
False celebrity death reports are very common. Some are just poor-taste hoaxes. Other, more sinister, versions are designed to trick people into participating in suspect online surveys or downloading malware.
It is wise to check any celebrity death report via a reputable news outlet before your share it or click any links that it contains.
