'Like and Comment and See What Happens to the Picture' Facebook Like-Farming Scams

Jump To: Example   References

A number of Facebook posts are circulating that claim that if you 'like' a picture and then type a number or a word 'something will happen' to the picture.

A great many people who see the posts obey the instructions in the vain hope of seeing the image miraculously change in some way.

Here is what happens if you do like the picture and type the specified word or number. Absolutely nothing whatsoever! The image will not change in any way.

These posts are just callous and rather lame attempts to garner attention. By creating one of these silly posts, sad and desperate little Facebook users can trick a lot of people into liking, sharing, and commenting on their material, thereby promoting their Facebook Page or Profile across the network. By using such a ruse, the scammers are then able to bludgeon their increasingly large audience with even more of the inane drivel that they typically post.

Or, if they manage to accumulate enough likes for a particular Facebook Page, they can sell the Page on the black market to other scammers.

If one of these posts comes your way, don't be tempted to participate. Remember, nothing will happen to the picture if you like and comment. And anybody who creates and posts one of these fake messages should not be trusted and certainly does not deserve you attention.
