Brief Analysis
The claims in the message are untrue. The message is derived from a satirical - and completely fictional - news story published on the Tyson Bowers III blog. All stories published on the blog are satire and have no factual basis whatsoever. The image of the supposed parents of the girl in the message is just a stock photo that has been published elsewhere in several different contexts.

Detailed Analysis
This message, which is currently circulating via Facebook and other social media sites, claims that a couple in southern Carolina have put their sixteen year old daughter up for adoption after learning that she was gay. The message, which includes an image supposedly depicting the gay girl's distraught parents, links to a longer blog post about the case. The blog post goes on to say that the parents made the "tough choice" to give up their daughter because they did not know how to handle someone who has decided to live a lifestyle that they cannot agree with.

However, the claims in the message are untrue and the story is purely a work of fiction. The story was first published on a satirical blog that features outrageous - and entirely fictional - posts that the author intends as satirical social commentary on topical events and attitudes. The blog is associated with famously irreverent satire outfit, Christwire. The blogger, who writes under the name Tyson Bowers III, does not specifically state on the site that the stories are intended as satire. Thus, despite the outlandish, and quite obviously false, claims made in the stories, at least a few of his readers apparently believe them to be true.

An NYMag.com article about Christwire notes:

"We're not trying to promote hate, we want to show how fake the world really is," he said. "We write to see how far we can get people to believe our nonsense. People believe anything they read on the Internet." Do readers get the joke? Just like with the media, not always. Butyidas, who usually pens columns under the name Tyson Bowers III, said some of the people who leave vituperative comments don't get the irony.

The picture of the "sad parents" that is featured in the story is simply a stock photo that has been used in a variety of contexts on many different websites. And, for the record, there are no "national news" articles about such a case, despite the claim in the message.
