UWheels Giveaway Facebook Scam

Jump To: Example   References

According to a post being shared on Facebook, you can get a free UWheels scooter just by liking and sharing the post and liking the Facebook Page that the post comes from. Supposedly, 125 UWheels are being given away because they are unsealed.

A UWeel is an electric self-balancing scooter billed as the 'hottest new way to get around town'.

However, the claims in the post are false and the Facebook Page that is supposedly giving away the UWheels is bogus. No amount of liking and sharing will get you a free scooter.

In fact, the Page is a typical like-farming scam designed to accumulate as many page likes as possible in the shortest possible time. By claiming that people must like and share for a chance to win, the scammers know that their Page will garner a great many new likes.

Once the fake Page has gathered a large number of likes, it can be used to launch survey scams and other types of fraudulent activity, this time to a much larger audience.

Alternatively, the scammers may sell the Facebook Page to other scammers via a very active black-market.

The absurd claim that supposed prize products cannot be sold because they are unsealed is apparently a favourite ruse among Facebook scammers and has been used in many other such scams.

Note that any claim that expensive products must be given away because their packaging has been unsealed is likely to be fraudulent. And, any claim that you can win a valuable prize by doing nothing other than liking and sharing a post should be treated as suspicious. Like-farming scams such as this one are very common on Facebook.

You can find the real UWheels Facebook Page here.
