Fake Emirates Facebook Page Promises Free Flight Tickets For Likes

Jump To: Example   References

According to a Facebook Page that claims to belong to airline Emirates, you can win free air tickets to any destination in the world along with $5000 spending money just by liking and sharing a promotional post and commenting 'Thank You'.

Supposedly, winners will be chosen at random and then notified by inbox message.

However, the supposed competition is fraudulent and the Facebook Page has no connection to Emirates. The Page is a typical like-farming scam designed to accumulate large numbers of likes as rapidly as possible.

The real Emirates Facebook Page, which features Facebook's blue 'verified' icon to prove its authenticity, has posted the following warning:
The recent competition on Facebook offering free flights is a hoax and has nothing to do with Emirates. Our competitions are always run from our officially verified social media channels. Emirates has been working with Facebook to have these pages removed. We request you to kindly report any such fake promotions to Facebook.
A number of major airlines around the world have been targeted in similar Facebook scams. Once the scammers have gained a large number of likes for their fake page by offering non-existent prizes as bait, the scammers can then use the Page to launch survey scams and other types of fraudulent activity, this time to a much larger audience.

Alternatively, the scammers may sell the fake Page on the black market to other scammers.

Be very wary of any Facebook Page or post that offers valuable prizes such as airline tickets, cruises, jewellery, or luxury cars just for liking, sharing and commenting. Such scams are still very common on Facebook.
