Robert Duvall is NOT Dead

Circulating messages claim that well respected actor Robert Duvall has died after falling from a cliff while filming in New Zealand.

The claims in the messages are untrue. Robert Duvall is still very much alive. There are no credible news reports about his demise. He did not fall from a cliff while filming in New Zealand. This is just one more in a long line of nasty hoaxes that claim that various celebrities have died. In fact, a number of these hoaxes claim that the targeted celebrity has died after falling from the same - apparently dreadfully dangerous - New Zealand cliffs.

Many of these false death rumours originate from several tasteless websites that allow users to create fake news stories detailing the supposed death of various celebrities. Users can generally pick from several "news" templates, add the name of their chosen celebrity and then "prank" their friends by sharing the bogus story. One such template is the "fell while filming in New Zealand" story used in the Robert Duvall version discussed here.

Before passing on such death messages, it is always wise to check their veracity via a legitimate news source. The main-stream media loves a good celebrity death, so you can rest assured that the passing of a well known personage will not go unreported. Doing a quick search via a news aggregator such as Google News would generally be enough to find out if a death rumour is true or false
