FAKE-NEWS - 'Tupac Shakur Alive'

Jump To: Example   References

A report going viral via social media claims that rapper Tupac Shakur did not die in 1996 as thought but has actually been in hiding for almost 18 years. The report says that, while it is unclear why Tupac has come out of hiding now, he has 'already been spotted with celebrities'.

However, the claims in the report are utter nonsense. Tupac is not alive as claimed in the story.

The American rapper and actor was murdered in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas, Nevada in September, 1996.

The report originates on the fake-news website Huzlers.com. Huzlers, which bills itself as satirical, has been responsible for a string of nonsensical stories that have circulated virally, causing angst and confusion among recipients. Huzlers includes the following disclaimer in the footer of its web pages:
Huzlers.com is a combination of real shocking news and satire news to keep its visitors in a state of disbelief.
However, because Huzlers presents its stories as seemingly legitimate news reports, many readers believe the stories to be genuine and share them far and wide.

Fake-news 'satire' sites like Huzlers have become more common in recent years. While good satire is both important and entertaining, it is debatable if the sites that churn out these bogus 'news' reports are at all worthy of the term.

It is wise to check any 'news' reports that come your way via social media or email before you share them with others. A quick search on a news portal such as Google News will usually reveal if a celebrity death - or, in this case, celebrity not dead after all - story is true or false.
